Econergy Puts 160 Million Euro Behind Romanian Expansion With Phoenix Financial Equity Deal

Battery-Solar Integration at the Core of the Strategy

Renewable energy developer Econergy has landed an equity investment of up to 160 million euros from Phoenix Financial, earmarked for driving renewables growth in Romania. The announcement was published on September 26, 2026. Under the deal, up to 130 million euros of the investment will become available within the first 12 months, with up to 30 million euros more available beyond that period. Co-locating battery energy storage systems (BESS) with its existing and under-construction solar PV projects is a key part of Econergy's strategy as it expands in the Romanian market, an area Phoenix has backed through its prior commitment.

First Co-Located Solar-Plus-Storage Project Operating

Earlier this month, Econergy brought its first co-located solar-plus-storage project into commercial operation at Parau 1 in Romania. The 70 MW/141 MWh battery energy storage system now operates alongside the existing 92 MW solar project, taking the project's combined installed capacity to 162 MW.

Romania Portfolio at the Heart of the Deal

Romania is described as a key market for Econergy, where the company has an established portfolio spanning solar, BESS, and wind technologies. The company currently has 1.1 GW under construction or ready for connection in the country.
