Ignitis Renewables, a subsidiary of Lithuania-headquartered Ignitis Group, has begun commercial operations at the 173.6 MW Tume solar farm in Tukums municipality, Latvia.
282,000 panels across 302 hectares of Tukums municipality
The facility spans 302 hectares and is fitted with more than 282,000 solar panels. According to Ignitis Group, the solar farm is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the demand of roughly 85,000 households.
The company said the project will bolster local renewable energy production and strengthen Latvia's regional energy security. Investment in the facility is set to total as much as USD 119 million, and the site is described as one of the largest solar energy projects in the Baltic region.
107.2 MW battery system is taking shape alongside the farm
Work is also underway on a battery energy storage system at the same location.
Ignitis Renewables is building the 107.2 MW/214.5 MWh Tume BESS, which is designed to be integrated with the solar farm to improve its operational efficiency and flexibility. Ignitis Group took a final investment decision on the Tume BESS in July of this year, and the system is still under construction.
Group's installed green capacity rises from 2.1 GW to 2.3 GW.
With Tume now in commercial operation, Ignitis Group reports that its installed green capacities have climbed to 2.3 GW, an increase from the previous 2.1 GW.
USD 92.3 million EBRD loan backed the 314 MW Kelmė wind farm in Lithuania
The Tume commissioning follows other recent moves across Ignitis Group's renewable portfolio.
In October 2025, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a USD 92.3 million loan to Ignitis Group for the construction of the largest onshore wind farm in the Baltic region.
That loan was one component of a broader USD 356.75 million financing package aimed at strengthening Lithuania's energy security and advancing its green energy transition. Contributions to the overall package came from the European Investment Bank, Swedbank, and the Nordic Investment Bank.
The financing allowed Ignitis Group to complete its 314 MW wind farm in Kelmė, in western Lithuania. Once operational, the Kelmė wind farm generates 740 GWh of zero-carbon electricity annually, sufficient to supply approximately 250,000 households.
