DTE Energy Brings $268 Million Fish Creek Solar Park Online Near Sheridan, US

DTE Energy confirmed that the 132-megawatt Fish Creek Solar Park located near Sheridan, Michigan, has entered operation. The facility is capable of supplying enough electricity for approximately 30,000 homes and represents a new source of Michigan-made clean energy for the utility's system. According to the company, the addition supports its efforts to deliver reliable power while keeping customer bills as affordable as possible.

MIGreenPower Customers Covered the Full Cost

The $268 million project received its entire funding from customers enrolled in DTE's voluntary MIGreenPower program. Because those participants chose to support renewable energy development directly, the new generation came online without raising costs for customers.

Matt Paul, president and chief operating officer of DTE Electric, said customers expect the company to keep the lights on and bills affordable, and that bringing new generation like Fish Creek online is part of how DTE delivers on that commitment.

He added that the park contributes Michigan-made energy to the system while supporting local jobs, generating new tax revenue and delivering lasting benefits for the communities involved.

Tens of Millions in Tax Revenue Projected for Local Governments

Fish Creek is expected to produce substantial economic gains for Montcalm County as well as Bushnell and Evergreen townships. The company estimates the solar park will generate tens of millions of dollars in additional tax revenue, with those funds supporting schools, first responders, roads, and services for veterans and senior citizens, among other needs.

Construction of the facility created hundreds of local jobs, and participating landowners will receive a reliable source of supplemental income going forward. Separately, both Bushnell and Evergreen townships were awarded USD 330,000 each through Michigan's Renewables Ready Communities Award, a grant program for local governments that host large-scale renewable energy projects. The two townships intend to direct the money toward renovations of their town halls and fire stations along with other community improvements.

Fish Creek Joins a Statewide Wind and Solar Fleet

The new park forms part of DTE's wider strategy for meeting Michigan's growing energy needs through a diverse mix of resources. Across the state, DTE currently operates 20 wind parks and 37 solar parks, which together produce enough clean energy to supply nearly 1 million homes.

The company has stated it plans to keep expanding this clean energy portfolio as it works toward net zero carbon emissions. Under DTE's 2026 Integrated Resource Plan, an additional 15 gigawatts of renewable energy are slated for development by 2042.
