MaxSolar and Energy2market Sign Seven-Year Hybrid PPA for 45 MW Solar and 20 MW Battery Storage in Germany
MaxSolar and e2m sign Germany's first hybrid PPA with a battery storage floor: 45 MW solar and 20 MW/40 MWh storage in Waren, offering revenue security.

Leipzig-based flexibility trader Energy2market (e2m) and Traunreut-based project developer MaxSolar have concluded a seven-year hybrid power purchase agreement for the joint marketing of a co-location project in Waren (Müritz), in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The arrangement, announced on 8 October 2026, covers a 45 MW solar park and a 20 MW battery storage facility with 40 MWh of capacity and is the first hybrid PPA in Germany in which the remuneration of a battery storage system is protected by a floor mechanism.
Under the contract, the operator receives a share of the optimisation revenues while a contractually agreed minimum remuneration shields the storage system's income.
A shared grid connection and staggered commissioning
The two assets were designed from the outset as a co-location project. They share a common grid connection via their own substation.
The solar park has been in operation since the summer of 2026, while the battery storage facility is scheduled to follow in September 2027.
The pairing of photovoltaics and battery storage at a single grid connection point gives the marketers additional flexibility. Because the storage system is not bound to the timing of solar generation, it can react directly to market and price signals.
In multi-market optimisation, the storage is deployed in whichever segment, day-ahead, intraday, or balancing energy, delivers the highest revenues.
For MaxSolar, the agreement provides long-term revenue security, while e2m takes charge of the market-optimised marketing and management of the combined project.
A floor structure that splits revenues and risk
Filip Markert, Originator at Energy2market, characterised the deal as breaking new ground. He noted that e2m has in recent years unlocked attractive revenue potential by optimising green electricity storage systems co-located with PV, and that this is the first time the company has combined that activity with long-term revenue protection.
According to Markert, the floor structure creates predictable cash flows without the operator having to hand over all of the optimisation revenues from the storage system. Moritz Kimmich, PPA Origination Manager at MaxSolar, emphasised the balance struck in the contract.
The agreed floor structure, he said, combines long-term predictability with optimal management of the battery storage system, creating benefits for both contracting parties.
The fourth co-location in MaxSolar's portfolio
Waren is not the company's first venture into combined solar-and-storage projects. Kimmich pointed to Gemmingen, Friedrichshof, and Darstadt as predecessors, describing Waren as MaxSolar's fourth co-location, equipped with its fourth marketing concept.
He called Energy2market a very strong player in the field of flexible trading. The deal also fits into MaxSolar's wider ambitions.
Christoph Strasser, Managing Director of MaxSolar, said a NextGen IPP requires not only a diversified portfolio of plants but also innovative and varied marketing models.
Structures like the one used in Waren, he argued, allow the company to generate predictable cash flows, strengthen project bankability, and still keep the chance to access additional revenue potential in the energy markets, a combination he described as a key building block for a resilient and growing IPP portfolio.
EDF backing and a template for further projects
Energy2market has been part of the EDF Group since 2019 and views the Waren contract as a model for future collaborations.
Hannes Behacker, Managing Director of Energy2market, said the energy transition needs not only more renewable generation and storage but also marketing models that intelligently combine the two and ensure their long-term viability.
He added that with e2m's experience in flexibility trading, its own financial strength, and the EDF Group behind it, the company can both structure innovative contract models and secure them for the long term, calling the project a blueprint for the next generation of co-location projects.
Both companies intend to work together beyond this single agreement. The experience gathered at Waren is to feed into the development and marketing of further commercially viable co-location and storage projects.
Who the contracting parties are
MaxSolar GmbH describes itself as an integrated infrastructure developer and operator spanning the full value chain of the new energy economy, from renewable energy projects and flexible energy storage solutions to regional heating and mobility concepts.
The company offers Power Purchase Agreements for long-term, predictable green electricity supply, works with a project pipeline of 6.1 gigawatts, and operates from six locations across Germany.
Energy2market GmbH, founded in Leipzig in 2009, is among Germany's leading optimisation and flexibility trading companies.
Its virtual power plant aggregates and manages several thousand decentralised installations, linking renewable generators, battery storage systems and other flexible assets to the electricity trading markets. The company has belonged to the EDF Group since 2019.
