Sonnedix Expands Italy Solar Portfolio With 54 MW EOS IM Acquisition

Sonnedix has completed the purchase of two operating solar farms in Italy with a combined capacity of 54MW, taking the company's operational portfolio in the country beyond 1.3GW.

The seller was EOS ReNewable Infrastructure Fund II, managed by EOS IM, and the deal was announced on 7 October 2026. Both plants are fully operational and feeding electricity into the Italian grid.

Where the Two Plants Sit

The larger of the two assets is Macchiareddu, a 46.5 MW plant located in the Province of Cagliari in Sardinia.

The second asset, Aprilia, has a capacity of 7.5MW and is situated in the Province of Latina in Lazio. Both projects were already delivering clean, reliable solar energy at the time of the transaction.

Seller and Buyer Weigh In

Mario Volpe, Chief Growth Officer at Sonnedix, said the acquisition builds on the strong pipeline of growth the company has developed in Italy over the past year and represents a clear step forward in its strategy to expand operational capacity in the country.

He described the relationship with EOS as genuine, noting it has already demonstrated real value through the speed and quality of the transaction, and thanked the seller for the trust and confidence placed in Sonnedix while reiterating the company's commitment to continuing to grow its portfolio in Italy.

Giuseppe Maronna, Sonnedix's Managing Director in Italy, said operations in the country have accelerated in 2026.

Among the milestones the company has celebrated this year, he cited surpassing 1GW of operating capacity, expanding battery storage capabilities, and securing a significant volume share in Italy's Energy Release 2.0 mechanism.

Maronna added that there is far more to come from the Italian portfolio and described the acquisition as a testament to the company's continued progress.

A Busy Year in Italy and Beyond

The deal follows closely on another Italian transaction announced in July, when Sonnedix acquired a 260 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio in Tuscania. The company said at the time that the storage purchase underscored its commitment to building a more resilient and flexible grid in Southern Europe.

Italy is described by Sonnedix as a core market. In addition to acquisitions, the company is growing in the country through development and by investing in hybridisation and battery energy storage systems across its portfolio.

Sonnedix's Global Footprint

Sonnedix is a global renewable energy company that delivers 100% clean electricity directly to its customers through a diversified portfolio of solar, wind, and storage assets.

With nearly two decades of sustained growth, the company acquires, develops, builds, and operates long-term projects, offering solutions tailored to each customer's needs. The company's total capacity stands at nearly 12GW, comprising 5GW in operation, more than 1GW under construction, and a development pipeline exceeding 5GW.

Sonnedix is active in Chile, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom and continues to expand across OECD countries through both acquisitions and greenfield development.

What the Deal Means for Italy

With Macchiareddu and Aprilia now part of its fleet, Sonnedix's operational capacity in Italy stands at more than 1.3GW, reinforcing its position in one of Europe's fastest-growing energy markets.

The transaction extends a year of expansion in which the company passed the 1GW operating mark in Italy, grew its storage capabilities, and won volume share under the Energy Release 2.0 mechanism.
